Home of the Missouri Action Coalition

In 2013, the Missouri Action Coalition developed the Direct Care Nurses Leadership Academy with the goal of building direct care nursing leadership skills and knowledge through a content-rich, interactive mentorship program. This goal addresses three of the eight key IOM recommendations: prepare and enable nurses to lead change to advance health, ensure that nurses engage in lifelong learning, and expand opportunities for nurses to lead and diffuse collaborative improvement efforts.

To date, over 450 Missouri nusrses have attended the Academy throughout the state. Theses nurses received valuable training related to applying leadership knowledge and skills to change processes in the workplace environment; planning and implementing an improvement change utilizing project management techniques and methods; and creating confidence and empowering direct care nurses to lead at the point of care.

The cost of attending the Academy is $150. This includes three full days of instruction over three months.

This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Participants can earn 14.0 contact hours for successful completion of the Academy.

For more information regarding contact hours, please call Tina Lear at 573.694.0180.
